Philanthropy
Philanthropy is literally the heart of Alpha Phi. That’s because Alpha Phi’s philanthropy is Women’s Cardiac Care. We are passionate about our cause, especially because Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in America. The money we raise through our philanthropy events not only goes towards Women’s Cardiac Care but also towards Alpha Phi Foundation which provides scholarships, as well as leadership and educational programs to members. Our chapter here at Santa Clara, Zeta Gamma, has made significant contributions to Alpha Phi Foundation and Women’s Cardiac Care in the past few years. In fact, we are the top donating Alpha Phi chapter internationally, raising over $72,000 last year alone.

There are two events specific to Zeta Gamma. The first is Star Search, which is an intercommunity talent show held in the winter. Other Greek houses, sports teams, on-campus groups, as well as different off-campus houses form teams are coached by Alpha Phis and perform. Last year we had over 20 teams participate, filled St. Clare’s gym to the brim and raised over $8,700! Our second event is Red Dress Gala, a silent and live auction held in the spring. Alpha Phis invite their families and friends to share in an amazing night of raising funds and making memories. There is music, dancing and lots of fabulous auction items, all procured by our chapter’s members. Last year our Red Dress Gala was attended by over 380 people and we raised over $63,000.

Over the years our chapter has also adopted a number of local causes that we support. Among them are HomeSafe Women’s Shelter, the Silicon Valley Princess Project, Relay for Life and See Jane Run 5k. We encourage our members to share what they are passionate about with the chapter and each year we decide, as a chapter, a new community service project to adopt.
